State of security in Kyuso

By Julius Kyalo
Murder and stealing remains a major challenge as far as security matters are concerned in Kyuso district. Some have lost their relatives while others have lost property.

It was only last month when a man was found beaten and left for dead in a pit a few meters from Kyuso market. The man said that he had been revelling in a pub and afterwards decided to board a motorbike to go home. His expectation of getting home was cut short when the motorbike owner turned against him together with his friends and beat him mercilessly. Having in mind that they had killed him, they threw him to the latrine. He was later rescued by a passer- by who heard him shouting for help.

Three weeks previously, a businessperson was shot in his shop just after the sunset. The man identified, as Musyoka was a well-known entrepreneur .To date the mystery of his death still engulfs the town since no arrest has been made. Shop operators have been forced to close their doors earlier than expected.

The government has stepped up efforts to combat this state of insecurity. Police are now patrolling the town with a new patrol car occasionally driving around the town. This is also complimented by establishment of a court in Kyuso presided by a magistrate to jail and fine offenders.

It is only hoped that the rest of the district will enjoy relative security since lack of enough patrol vehicles may make the police work difficult and pose more risk to the residents.
