Poor road network in Kyuso

By Duncan Mutisya
Kyuso district and Mwingi at large has several roads connecting different towns within the locality.
One of the major roads in the area is the Mwingi-Kyuso-Tseikuru-Usueni road. This road since time immemorial has always given rise to debates due to its poor state. Transport is a nightmare in the area.

The road is currently under a snail-pace construction in an effort to link Meru town through Usueni. Only 32km has been tarmacked so far. Residents are ready politics in the whole thing especially associated with the former area MP and Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka. “With his absence in an active political environment, the road is bound to stop or diverted else from the original plan,” said one resident who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

The other available feeder roads within the locality that are also in dire state include Kora-Ngomeni road, which connects Garissa – Nairobi highway through Kasten. Although it is one of the most important roads that ease access of the residents to the main road, it is impassable during rainy season. Others are Kyuso- Ngaaie- Nguni road, Ghai- Katakani-Munguu road, Kyuso-Kimangao road, Kandwia- Kimangao road and Mwanzingi- Mataka road.

Some of these roads require bridges or drifts to make them passable. Along the Mwingi- Tseikuru, main road, at Kamuw’ongo, there is need for construction of a bridge.
Generally, the road network in Kyuso district is poor and requires urgent attention to rescue residents from perennial nightmares.
